The Ms. Foundation for Women today announced its commendation of fashion innovator Diane von Furstenberg for her commitment to women-centered philanthropy and mentorship. Von Furstenberg will be honored at the Ms. Foundation for Womens 40th anniversary celebration May 13 at Cipriani 42nd Street in New York.
Diane is advancing womens equality at the highest levels of leadership, providing opportunities for emerging female entrepreneurs and support for women who are creating cultural change, said Ms. Foundation President and CEO Anika Rahman. Her vision of equality is exemplified not just through her empowerment of female leaders, but also through her public advocacy of womens rights.
Creator of the iconic wrap dress, von Furstenberg sits on the board of Vital Voices, a non-governmental organization that supports female leaders and entrepreneurs around the world. In 2010, with the Diller-von Furstenberg Family Foundation, Diane established the DVF Awards to honor and provide grants to women who have displayed leadership, strength and courage in their commitment to their causes.
The Gloria Awards: A Salute to Women of Vision gala is presented in honor of Ms. Foundation co-founder Gloria Steinem. The pre-gala cocktail reception will be co-hosted by film actresses Olympia Dukakis, Ashley Judd and Ms. Foundation co-founder Marlo Thomas.
