The Museum of the City of New York is open the week of July 4th, and inviting New Yorkers and visitors to come experience the dynamic exhibitions and programs and enjoy a holiday discount.
Thursday, July 4th, the Museum of the City of New York will offer a special $ 4 admission, all day, in honor of the nations birthday!
Friday, July 5th, the Museum Store will offer a $ 5 discount on any purchase of $ 25 or more. Choose from a unique assortment of gifts, jewelry, books, and prints, including a wide selection of New York themed gifts.
Saturday, July 6th, come see the Museums 6 current exhibitions. Visitors can learn about Green-Wood Cemeterys illustrious permanent residents in A Beautiful Way to Go: New Yorks Green-Wood Cemetery exhibition; gaze at the colorful garments of legendary designer Stephen Burrows at Stephen Burrows: When Fashion Danced, which will close on July 28, 2013; and learn about design solutions to accommodate New York Citys changing demographics with Making Room: New Models for Housing New Yorkers. Other exhibition highlights include: Timescapes: A Multimedia Portrait of New York, a 22-minute video tracing the growth of New York City; Activist New York, which explores the history of the citys activist roots; and Marine Paintings from the Collection of the Museum of the City of New York.
Sunday, July 7th, from noon to 2 pm, families can enjoy the program Getting Around: Transportation in NYC, free with Museum admission. From horse-drawn omnibuses to electric cars, transportation in New York City has undergone many changes since the 1800s. Kids can explore the many modes of transportation showcased in images from the Museums collection. Using what they learned, they will then create a timeline of transportation in the city, including their own ideas for future innovations.
